View Full Version : Noisy Rangehood

We have a rangehood that we never use then fan on because it is so noisy. I seem to recal that some time ago there was a thread on fans that could be mounted externally. I have tried searching but cannot find the thread. If someone can point me in the right direction it would be much appreciated.
What I am thinking of doing is removing the rangehood internal fan completely and ducting through the wall to an external fan mounted immediately under the eaves and then getting a sparkie to hook it up to the existing control switches on the hood.

If anyone can foresee any problems with this please speak up.

Bill,
if you're going to run ducting I'd suggest to do that first as you may find that once it's done the fan won't be working against as much backpressure and will be much quieter. Try to run it in smooth bore ducting (ie 150mm stormwater pipe) rather than the convoluted flexi duct as this creates turbulence.

Thanks Mick. As the existing hood exhausts out into the kitchen below the ceiling, I don't think that this is the problem. I feel that it is just a bloody noisy fan.
