I think I may've asked this before, but I'm not sure...

To date attaching pix and just recently, inserting their thumbnails into the body text, has been pretty well covered but is it possible to do the same with attachments that've previously been UL'd and linked to another msg?

eg. I recently had reason to post a pic of a vice I made for holding pen blanks during drilling. Now, I know I've already UL'd such a pic, so why waste Neil's HDD space by ULing another?

So, wading through my attachment list (all 22+ pages of 'em :oo: I have been a busy li'l happy snapper. :-) I found the one I wanted: (http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/attachment.php?attachmentid=20423&d=1141808741)
... noted the attachment_id (20423) and tried using the attachment_id method. This gives just an underlined URL though:

20423

Not exactly what I wanted; I'd prefer a thumbnail instead. So, then I tried using the full_path method, but that only gives a full pic, which ain't ideal for dial-up users.

Anyone got a clue how to make a thumbnail instead? Or am I asking the more than the board SW can handle?

Just post a link to it so others can click the link to open the pic.
Like this (http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/attachment.php?attachmentid=20423&d=1141808741).

Skewy, Looking at the HTML code, the thumbnails are not stored as such, but it looks like they are generated on the fly by some perl? script code on the server. Forumites can't refer to them because they don't exist and a standard post can't access this code.

Yeah, that's more or less what I figured. I was hoping that some guru would pull a rabbit out of his hat, I guess. :)

Skew, I had a read of the documentation for vBulletin software (the developed the code this place runs on) and from what I can find, BobL is on the mark.:-

Skew - Save the pic to your computer then up load it in the post as an attachment it will show as a thumbnail and will be viewable by clicking on it just as in this post.

Cheers - Neil :)

PS you may need to rename the saved pic from 3-DPJig.jpg to 3dpjig.jpg or 3-DPJig2.jpg or something similar. Long way round for a short cut I know, but will work as you wanted.

Well thats interesting. I wanted to post a picture that I had posted previously with out chasing for the picture on the forum so I renamed it and the forum still wouldn't let me post it. It came and said this picture has already been posted even though I had renamed it.

I get the same result as Barry if I try posting the same picture BUT it looks like someone else can post the same pic. Do you want to try downloading and reloading this one Barry?

Yeah, I found the same thing Bazza. I can repost other people's pix that way, but not my own.

Ah well, it looks like a plain text link is still the best workaround.

Thanks just the same, Neil.

You'd soon get sick of me asking, . I'd rather not have more people cringing when they see me coming, having babes in strollers burst into tears as I walk by is quite enough, thank-you! :p

Thanks for the offer though.

How about image hosting like photobucket? Then just provide the link, using the 'insert image" - like this
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i145/arbeedan60/Practise/sassafras1.gif

Or to do the thumbnail, by using the url in the attachment dialogue. The image is always at photobucket, doesn't take up any room here, and you can reuse it in as many posts as you like. You can use it elsewhere too, such as ebay listings.

The problem with using an outside picture host is that if the account lapses we lose all photos too. Some threads make no sense now because of this. We prefer if you use the internal download.

Yep you're right it only works with someone else's pic not one you have posted..... bugger. I'll look into it.

OK try it now - it should work. Did for me and you may not have to rename the pic.
Yay me.... :Irule:

Where I work photobucket is on the black list (probably because a lot of time wasters visit there) whereas for some reason WWF is not!!!! :oo: :D :B Of course WWF is not time wasting, it's valuable technical information!!!!:2tsup:
