Hi Guys, I was hoping someone could tell me what wood has been used on the following fence. I want to replicate the fence as best I can (having no experience what so ever apart from reading this forum which has been great)<o></o>
<o></o>
I believe the post are made out of Cypress Gold (90x90) and stained in a natural stain, is this correct?.<o></o>
The brush fence is aprox 6cm thick and is available through Bowens timber, so far the best price around $147<o></o>

What type of wood are the horizontal slats. It’s hard to see in the photos but the front of the slats is smooth while the back has a laser cut line like look<o></o>
I’m really only after the look and color of the horizontal slats so any suggestion on any other wood that will give me that particular look would be great.<o></o>

I am not familiar with wood types over your way, but perhaps a close-up of the timber would give people a better chance.

Cheers

Merbu, almost certainly. Looks like decking boards, I bet they are ribbed on the other side.

And here's another pic of the back with the lines running through the wood.

there you go, just as I said. It's Merbau (Merbu) decking.

Thanks Gumby, i'll have a look at tracking it down. Without getting ahead of myself would this be the more expensive option, is there another cheaper option that would net similar results? Is there a cheaper wood that can be stained to look like Merbau.

Bunnings and Bowens have it so it isn't hard to find. You would use a natural decking oil to finish them but let them bleed out all the natural tannin first (see the timber decking threads for all the info).

You could use treated pine decking boards which would be cheaper, and stain them with a Merbu coloured decking oil.
