Hi guys

I have a 2 basin sink that had an Insinkerator installed in the "smallest" sink. I have removed it and want to install a "sink drainer" thing so and connect it to the existing "P" trap so that it can be used as a normal sink.

I purchased the correct "sink drainer" kit to fit the big hole in the basin. It is a 2 piece kit with a big black round rubber washer. My question is: does the washer go under the sink hole or on top of the sink hole? If it goes under the sink, do I put some silicon around the top of the hole to seal it? What type of silicon?

Thanks for your help.

Put the washer under the sink hole with a small bead of silicon around the sink fitting and then insert into hole

I've been told that the blac washer goes on top of the sink but have only ever had trouble with doing it that way so dont. use silicone on top, washer under and clean up the silicone straight away with mineral turps or acetone for a clean finish it can stain the sink if you leave it there.

As DJS said, the washer goes under the sink hole. A bead of silicone (or even plumber's putty) aorund the drain ring and there should be a large nut to draw them tight together from below. :)

Thank you Al. I should have added that the washer is really meant more as a protection from breaking the ceramic than as a watersealer. The seal is the silicon around the drain at the top. :)
