Hi All,

I am looking fora little assistance with getting the colour of a wood right for our house. The fiance and i were down at Harvey Norman the other day and saw a style of table that we liked, but considering it was going to cost $2000 for the table alone I have decied to have a go at it myself.

I have not started on it yet on account of the fact that i want to make sure i can get the colour right. As much as i like the look of plain varnished timber, it doesnt suit our house so i need to stain it.

I want to achieve a deep chocolate colour but still be able to see the grain. From what i have seen in the shops, the grain is still faintly visible which i am happy with.

So the question is this, What stain wood combination would i have to use to ge this colour. I have tried a number of different stains so far but o no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Joe

Joe,

Try mixing your chosen brown colour stain(walnut or whatever), with some "Black Japan" ( made by Feast Watson). You will have to do a little experimenting but you should be able to get the right mix to get a dark chocolate brown. It works for me.
