HI
I need to buy a lawn mover and wipper snipper. I'm interested in hearing anyones oppinions on brand names, 2 stroke 4 stroke etc. I will only be using it for home use. I have a double block.
Thanks

The wipper snipper, I'd go for a Stihl or a Husqvarna. Ya get what ya pay for.
If you can afford it go for a mower with a Honda motor. Masport are a good brand.

A decent petrol powered whipper snipper around the mid 200's will last ages (get one with a bump feed).
I have a Stihl.
A 4 stroke mower is good. Nothing wrong with a Briggs & Stratton motor either. The last one I had went for over 20 years and we have a decent size block. The mower casing broke before the motor did.
have a talk to your local mower supplies guy where you get good service, repairs and advice.
Much better than buying from Bunnings.

I went for a 2 stroke Stihl whipper snipper as I was told that you would have more chance of spares in ten years time than the cheapies that change their models every six months. It's performed well and started easily. It's the same as tools - the quality remains long after the price is forgotten :)
I was advised that when you've finished using it, empty the fuel out and then run it until it stops - that way the fuel line is not so likely to perish (like mine did). Shake your fuel can before use to make sure the oil hasn't settled.

Does anyone have any views on the Stihl Combi unit that you can add various attachments?

Currently have an el cheap-O Falcon (Chinese) when we were renting a place with a small garden.
Now we have acreage, it is nowhere near man enough. Am thinking of the Stihl Combi (and a ride on).

I have a Honda 4 stroke wipper snipper, its 7 years old and just had its first repair. It has been flawless. Easy to start and does a great job.
I also have the Victa with the honda motor on it (also 4 stroke), once again works flawlessly. I originally wanted a honda lawn mower, but they were just too expensive for my tiny block. Victa with a honda motor, next best thing
Howdya do that

I have a Stihl 2-stroke wipper snipper that has not failed to start in 7 years and John Deere lawn tractor which is the duck guts if you need something that big.

I recently bought a Victa 4 stroke mulch or catch with B+S engine.... happy with it and it does the job well, I only use it for home use so simply couldnt justify the price of the honda etc.
I had a masport before that (also B+S engine) which I got from my old man, must have been 15 years old at least, was a good old mower till it gave up :D

When I had to buy the two things the question of price was great but, then I got a good deal a cheap company mover but with B+S engine which is pretty standard across most movers, with the trimmer I got a cheap one from Kmart real cheap 2-Stroke, but hey I only have to use a mover about once a month there is no water for that lawn to grow and the trimmer may be twice a month if lucky so with those figures I will use the mover about 12 times a year and trimmer about 15-20 max so I worked out it was not worth spending all that money on professional products and two years later these items still start well and no sign of trouble!!

So did I about 12 months ago.
Bought it to replace the 3rd hand 25 yo honda that we had for about 10 yrs. Wheels falling apart, alloy body cracked and bits broken of from being dropped, engine a bit smoky, but it still went 1st pull every time, even with stale fuel or after it had been tipped upside down for cleaning.
Don't think I would even consider anything else.
