View Full Version : OK, own up time. Who's pulled a post ?

Since it's humble pie night around here this evening, I'm wondering how many others have posted something they regretted, either straight away or maybe later. Have you deleted said post or left it there and faced the music ?

There were 3 old posts down near my new shed that I didn't want so I used my old Landrover to delete them... the bull bar has a few bends in it & something under the Landrover sounds like my left knee now but, the posts are gone.
Does that count? :D
Apart from that, if somebody(s) else hadn't deleted so many of my posts, I'd be past 10000 now too. :p

I may have said one or two mean things in my illustrious time round here, but don't mean any harm, so never regret saying them.
OK maybe Seppo Joe and I did get off on the wrong foot, but hey he didn't like my friend Sturdee either! :p
Cheers,

I've made a goose of myself on the net more than once. Sometimes if you don't say what's on your mind, and cop the flack, and listen to opinions, then you'll never learn anything and you might never say anything. I was incredibly shy and lonely as a kid, and I'd rather open my mouth and see the opinions on the garbage that comes out of it sometimes.
Make amends, get over it and move on, with a bit more wisdom under your belt.

Oh sorry cliff. i can't change it now either. maybe a real mod can, but not me, i'm just an apprentice mod :D
So, for Cliff's benefit, if you think he's a rat's ring, just say so at the bottom of your reply and we'll add them up :D

Heaps a times
I've stouched with members said stuff I've regretted made braindead comments without thinking n had to act like a politition backed into a corner makin admissions of guilt at the 11th hour to smooth things over.
Its always been fun for me n always taken with big grains of salt never with an intention of kicking up an ungodly stir luckily I have a thick hide n don't tend to take things on personally or care to much for what people say n think If I have something to say I say it.................. once its over its over.
What I do often find and observe though is some members seems to get away with it easily almost congratulated for it....................
while most get slammed by what I fondly refer to as the swarm the professional forum selfproclaimed heavyweights that just have to have their say n love trying to kick dogs while their down n gag positive contabutions outside the status quo
....................And then theres ..............oooooorrr yeah ................and
:p
Anywayz when its all said n done it all hopefully about practicing
consistancy
1. treating each other with respect
2. Having forum moderators that are role models that maintain a high standard and clean up as required
Humans make mistakes thats what we do well............ having the grace to own them makes some humans special................having the wisdom to know when enough is enough or when where not suited to a particular task job or role?................ well thats what makes some humans great!!!!

There is one post I did regret a little.
When I first joined the forum a few years ago. I had a little conversation with SilentC. It was about Triton (of course) and I got a little bit personal with him. The funny thing is we became pretty good mates because of that.:-
And 3 years on, he is still wronger than I am and Triton is still useless.:D
BTW you guys are all bastards.:D

I have never withdrawn a post I have made as I mean what I say when I say it. Even my remarks to Seppo Joe or Aeg20boat were intentional.
However later in hindsight, and after being called to task by others, I have regretted some of my outbursts and have publicly apologized in those circumstances.
Ofcourse some moderator has deleted some of my remarks.:D

I may have regretted the tone of some of mine but never the message. I've never deleted one.
Sometimes I'm just having a bit of fun with someone, you know, yanking their chain to get a rise. But sometimes I'm dead serious, like when people spout absolute crappola and wont back down in the face of hard evidence. My mission is to get them to admit they might be mistaken. But I try to restrict myself to challenging their words. In a couple of cases, there are so many things I could have said but held back because I really do try to keep personalities out of it.
And just so there's no confusion, I expect anybody who sees me spouting similar crap to do the same. Sometimes you learn a lot more from what you don't know. It's hard to swallow the lump and say "yeah, I was wrong about that". You try to work out a way to slant your words so that it seems like you were right all along. Trouble is it's all there in black and white.
Nothing like a good argument anyway, people who don't like it should put something in their signature like "please don't argue with me, I'm a sensitive soul".
And yes, Lou, I know exactly who you were thinking about

That's the key, isn't it? Sometimes it's tempting to attack people who are full of bullshyte, but it only provokes them and seldom changes their viewpoint. (Although I'll admit they can really get your back up.)
Of course, drivel is drivel, and that's alright. But when it's facts someone needs to know and they are giving misleading information, it is irritating and sometimes unsafe.

That's right. I have been guilty of spouting things that I have later had to accept were incorrect or just plain crap. I've believed things with a firm conviction that have turned out to be wrong. But what I fear more than being wrong is being one of those people who continues to insist even when the evidence is overwhelming. It becomes personal and they wont admit they were wrong, because that would mean admitting the person they've had the stoush with was right and that can be a hard thing to do. There's a fine line between pride and looking like a fool. Don't I know it :o
