hello,

I am making something out of Sydney Blue Gum but will be using pine for the internal construction such as the drawer box and was wondering if there was a stain that would effectively colour the pine to look like sydney blue gum. It dosen't have to be 100% perfect because it is after all inside and will only be visible when the drawer is opended.

Anyone know of or suggest a product and place to buy it? Would somewhere like bunnings sell this?

Thanks

Leave the pine as it is in it's natural state as has been done for hundreds of years. Don't seal it or polish it leave it raw.

I just thought it may tie in better with the rest of the project if it matched but if it didn't quite match or turned out tacky it would not be so good, but I could try it out on a piece of scrap timber before hand to get an idea whether to leave it as is or stain it.

Have a look through the pics section of the forum. You'll find most people leave the internal sections the lighter colour of the wood. You'll find the same if you go to fine furniture stores and start opening drawers.

In my opinion, it looks far better to have lighter timber on the internals than to have some obviously stained lighter wood, which will never match exactly and will get worse over time.

If you want it to match, use the same timber.
