View Full Version : Ceiling Fan Remote Control

Hi,

I recently purchased and had installed a ceiling fan, and to make life easier I got a remote control unit so we didn't have to run new wires through the walls (we have an old house we plan to renovate and thought this might be an easy option until we re-plaster).

However, the remote receiver makes a constant buzzing noise, and since the fan is in our bedroom, when everything is quite of a night it is very annoying. We still have the switch connected so we can turn the power off to the fan completely, but that defeats the purpose of a remote control.

Does anyone else who has a remote (purchased from Beacon Lighting) experience this sort of annoying buzzing? Is this something we should expect? Apart from this it functions fine!

Doesn't sound like all is right. Presumably by 'had installed' the fan was placed by a sparkie. If so then you can make a warranty claim no the fan which means someone will come out and perhaps sort the problem.

I did have it fitted by a sparkie, through a friend...I'm not totally convinced the job was done properly though. We still have a bit of the old style wiring through the house, not sure what its called but they are single wires with some sort of thread insulation. He has just re-used this wiring to connect the fan, not sure how safe this old wiring is. It looks as though the house has been re-wired to an extend years ago, there is newish circuit box with a safety switch, but still some old wiring (mainly the light fittings)

What do I need to make a warranty claim, would I need a certificate, as he never gave me one, I can ask him, but if he did a dodgy job he might be reluctant to give me one, then i guess i'd know...

I had three remote control fans installed on monday and they do not have this problem, I think you get the sparky back

Thanks, sounds like it could be a problem with the remote unit then, might try and organise that certificate so I can make a warranty claim...
