Oil Stains

Hi Ya'll

I am currently working on a nice ole' kitchen hutch base ( unfortuanetly the top half dosn't exist anymore!! )
The top has a lovely big oil stain right in the middle! My client would like this to be removed! Usually I don't bother with full removal of oil stains I just remove as much of the oil as possible. Usually by using the sun to draw the oil out.
So, does anyone have any great ideas to be rid of this stain? I have told my client that it will still be there, but that I would try to get rid of it, so I am covered, but would like to please my client http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/smile.gif

G'Day Shane,

You can use some "Kitty Liter" on the stain, or some talc powder, these should draw up the stain. ( unless the stain, has been there for a long time) Then wash the top with some Lacquer thinner.
You may need to repeat the method.

If this fails, then use some household bleach to wash it out, do the whole top, and then wipe with some clean water, and allow to dry.

I would try soaking with turps first, maybe a poultice of lime and turps, apparrently does a good job on concrete. Leave it on for a few days, as it drys the oil should be drawn up into the lime. If that doesn't work or you don't want to try it, lacquer thinner or acetone will at least remove it from the top layers. Good luck. Let us know what you do and how it goes. See ya, Rod

Well thought I would let you'll know the results!!!

I tried my usual method first, which is to just use the sun to draw the oil out.
This worked great, until the sun decided to turn to rain cloud http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/smile.gif

So luckily enough I had removed a lot of the oil and just a good wipe with turps took what was left on the immediate surface and then a good sand took the rest out. There is still a slight stain left, but I think that will add some character. I don't want to have to start bleaching, but will if I have too. I havn't polsihed it yet, but will do that this week! thanks!!
