Hi folks,

I'm recladding the workshop (wood frame construction) and need to replace the old louvre window.

Question is whether the new window should be installed before the cladding? I'm guessing yes, so the flashing is in place before the cement sheet goes on, but I'd appreciate some expert advice.

The window will be an aluminium frame unit so it could alternatively work with a sealed architrave around it.

Thanks in advance,

Yes, you would normally install the window first, then the cladding around it. It should have a timber reveal equal to the thickness of the frame + internal lining (if any). Then you install it so it's flush with the outside of the frame. When you cut the sheet, get it in as tight as you can to the side of the part of the window that protrudes past the mounting flange. An easy way if you're not fussed about appearances is to finish your sheets either side of the window and cut in a sheet over and under the window using a H section joining strip at each joint.
