Wattyl Natural (Scandinavian) Teak Oil

Just a quick question.. I have just finished a red gum coffee table and found a can of Wattyl Natural (Scandinavian) Teak Oil in my shed that I puirchased a few months ago. Does any one know if it would be okay for redgum and if so whats the best way to apply?

Hi Macka,
I have used Wattyl Scandinavian Oil many times on a variety of timbers and particularly like it on RG.
IMO, you have two choices.

1. You can swab the oil onto the surfaces liberally and allow about 10-20 minutes to soak in, then repeat the process. While the timber is still wet, friction seal with something like 400g or higher, then wipe off the remaining slurry when finished.

2. Do as above, but friction seal starting with 400g and move up to 1200-2000g. As you go add oil to the base of each consecutive sanding pad and also dab some on the timber. When finished wipe the excess slurry from the timber with a clean rag. You should have a well polished look and a very smooth feel.

For both methods, I would strongly suggest using EEE Ultracream followed by Traditional wax. The resultant clarity, resilience and beauty of the finish is outstanding.:)

Thats a very good point. I tend to use coasters for protection, but I admit that in high usage situtions, I would use Wipe On Poly after using the EEE Ultra. I have a waxed RG coffee table in the "front lounge" as we used to say, and it has been fine. My mistake and thanks for pointing it out.:B

Yeah, I was just wondering.

I use Danish Oil on my turnings as the only finish and have found it pretty durable.
