Have a look at this and se if it helps
http://science.howstuffworks.com/light-stick.htm

or for the chemisrty behind the reaction

The chemical reaction in a light stick usually involves several different steps. A typical commercial light stick holds a hydrogen peroxide (http://science.howstuffworks.com/framed.htm?parent=light-stick.htm&url=http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/sci/A0824724.html) solution and a solution containing a phenyl oxalate ester (http://science.howstuffworks.com/framed.htm?parent=light-stick.htm&url=http://pubs.acs.org/cen/whatstuff/stuff/7703scit4.html) and a fluorescent dye. Here's the sequence of events when the two solutions are combined:

The hydrogen peroxide oxidizes (http://science.howstuffworks.com/framed.htm?parent=light-stick.htm&url=http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/sci/A0837179.html) the phenyl oxalate ester, resulting in a chemical called phenol (http://science.howstuffworks.com/framed.htm?parent=light-stick.htm&url=http://www.infoplease.com/ce6/sci/A0838722.html) and an unstable peroxyacid (http://science.howstuffworks.com/framed.htm?parent=light-stick.htm&url=http://www.infoplease.com/ipd/A0584393.html) ester.
The unstable peroxyacid ester decomposes, resulting in additional phenol and a cyclic peroxy compound.
The cyclic peroxy compound decomposes to carbon dioxide.
This decomposition releases energy to the dye.
The electrons in the dye atoms jump to a higher level, then fall back down, releasing energy in the form of light. Thanks to Google. and howstuffworks (http://science.howstuffworks.com/light-stick.htm)

actually if you were to ask the question of the meaning of life and everything on this forum you would get the answer 42 far more than any other answer , why........ because it is the answer ...........and until you truly understand the total concept why then you will never understand ( it all started with the druids ) seven standing stones each with six sides the inner circle at Bornholm amongst others.

What are the drivers of behaviour? At the base of many of the behaviours we do is...a previous experience. Something happened We reacted. Positive outcome...repeat the behaviour. Negative outcome...try not to repeat behaviour. All behaviour begins functional to deal with a situation. Over time the behaviour may progress to become oppressional (affect others negatively) or obssessional(affect self negatively).
Hard part is to keep behaviour functional! How many circuits of the cup with the spoon to stir sugar etc.
Someone on this forum has a saying about life giving the experience first then the lesson!
Stitches are almost a thing of past...they like glue etc just like the woodies
