I've noticed that over the last few years that I'm going through an awful lot of razor blades. I get a couple of uses out of them and they start to pull on the hair and I have to get a new one out. This is happening with the cheaper disposable ones as well as the Wilkinson quality (?) steel blades that I use in my quality steel holder. If this keeps up I'm going to have to get out my sharpening stone and keep it permanently in the bathroom :)( . Mind you the steel on the blades is hardened and very thin so that would be very hit and miss. What is the best blade going around in terms of longevity? Maybe I'll have to get one of those long straight things that barbers use that you see them strop from time to time, but then I'll have to get a strop ......

As a person who used to work in hair research, believe me when I say your beard isn't getting any tougher. Probably the skin underneath is.
I've taken to shaving when I have to or every two weeks whichever comes first. Its useful when I walk down the street in an old overcoat and an empty bottle, singing "Cheap wine and a 3 day growth".:D It also saves water and confuses the heck out of the cats who insist on sitting in the basin.

I was getting to that point and then along came a Norelco.
I don't think that there have been good razor blades since the demise of the 'band' razor blades.

I heard somewhere that they get small rust spots on the edge. Apparently if you keep the one that you are using in a small dish of olive oil they keep sharper longer.

Tameriska,
Would that be the hairs or the blades:? .

I've tried a few different brands of blades. Never liked the Gillette ones. Seem overpriced and don't last too long. Schick are not too bad. Got a set of those recently and they are quite good. Wilkinson Sword is my favorite. Seems to be the sharpest of the lot. I suppose longevity of blades is also determined by how long your beard growth is when you shave too? But I'm just guessing here :)

Oops, meant to say leave the razor blade in olive oil, prevents the rust which dulls the blade
