Hi,
My decking timber (Jarrah) arrived last week and is sitting on my verge. It is strapped up and covered (mostly) in plastic and is off the ground (on some old timber). It is also mostly in the shade. I have now decided not to install it until after my brick paving is done. Bearing in mind that trying to get anyone to do anything in Perth is near on impossible this could be a month at least. Which leads me to my question. Will my timber warp and bow whilst it is sitting on my verge?

Thanks
Tony

It should be fine as long as it is sitting flat and not twisted or cupped along it's lenght.

Most decking timbers no matter how well they have been stored or strapped, will have have some bow in it when you cut the straps off the pack.

Most of this is taken out when you screw or nail the deck down anyway

G'day.
You would be better off carrying it in and stacking it in your garage/carport etc. and leave the car outside.

But I would then have to cut the steel strapping holding it all together... Would it not then more likely warp as all the timbers will then be loose?

Follow the above advice and you are less likely to have regrets.

Leaving it out would be inviting tea leaves, anyway...

It's going to rain in Perth a maximum of once for about an hour between now and March so I wouldn't get too stressed about it. Go buy yourself a big enough tarp to cover the whole pile and it will be fine. Jarrah needs A LOT of change in humidity to bow much and putting it in the garage for a couple of months at this time of year is probably a lot of unnecessary effort (and jarrah isn't light). Wood does get stolen though...
