Removing stain

What is the best/fastest way to remove a gel stain from the wood? I started to stain an ash frame and wasn't happy with the way it was turning out so I stopped and now I need to strip it off to do over,any methods or do I just aggressively start sanding it out?http://www.woodworkingtalk.com/images/smilies/cursing.gif

If you read the last paragraph of http://www.woodworkingtips.com/etips/etip31.html
may shed some light on it, also had a tip acetone may work but you would have to try a small edge.
