wax finish on top of varnish

Hi Guys
We inherited an old garden seat with the house, steel frame rusted and wooden slats rotted.
I have replaced all the wood with recycled hardwood and have hammertone painted the steel frame.
The wood has had 3 coats of varnish applied and was considering wether to apply a coat of sponsors traditional wax on top of the varnish?
This seat will be left outside in the weather
If i did wax it would i rub it in with 0000 steel wool or just use a cloth or not bother with the waxing at all

Hi Farm Boy,

If you want further protection over the varnish, maybe some form of Polyurethane would be good. I use Wipe On Poly on timber which has high traffic or work and it works well. Also use this combo to polish my head, lasts for months:)

For lacquering outdoor timber, I reckon you can't go past Spar Varnish. It is designed for it, after all...
