Friday was a sad day in the Smith household. I had to sell my motorbike to finance an operation I badly need. Did not get anywhere near what it was worth but all for the greater good as they say.:( http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/images/icons/icon13.gif

Maybe now you will live to a ripe old age, instead of obliterating yourself round a telegraph pole or such!
Had numerous deaths on the South Coast with bikes especially down McQuarie Pass, its used for a racetrack, fastest one up there wins.Life is too precious.

Coastie, if that is supposed to be a message of commisseration, I am missing something. Quite apart from the fact that he had to sell his pride and joy to finance an operation, your are implying he is an irresponsible hoon:rolleyes: !
I have never owned or ridden a motorbike, but to imply that every motorbike rider is an irresponsible hoon is a bit much!
Step off soapbox.

Pete, hope the agony will be worth it, I can relate to having to part with something you hold dear.
Hope the operation goes well and the future will hold another Triumph.

Hey Pete ,sincerely hope all goes well with the trip to the hospital.
You will bounce back and in time perhaps a new bike on a future Santa's wish list.
All the best to you and your family over this period.
cheers:)

We have a car already Dingo it be a Subaru Outback 2005 6 cyl jobbie and a goodun too. Also have a little Holden Astra for darting around town.
Coastie I used to have a Honda CBR 1000 and was an absolute IDIOT on it. Touched 300 kph (under controlled conditions of course) a few times and was suitably pale when I stepped off the bike:eek: . Getting to old now and lucky to break the speed limit.:)
The operation is a Neurotomy and I am very relaxed with the proceedure. Basically I need it if I want to go back to work in any way close to my full potential. Rather be healthy than have a bike I can't ride anyway.

Sorry to hear mate, at least you have admitted it to yourself, my old man still has his in the garage. He never finished restoring it and hasnt even driven a car in 3 or 4 years. Last time he rode a bike was at least 5 tp 10 years ago, but it still sits there.
Before you say anything, no I wont be finishing it, I have way to many brains to get on a bike:D:D. (I know I would kill myself, and decided many years ago that 4 wheels was safer for me)
Good luck with the op and keep us informed

Thanks guys for the support and kind words. I did not mention the same affliction has kept me from any real shed time for about twelve months.
As someone once said ... All good things come to those who wait.

I don't think anybody that rides a bike is a irresponsible hoon.
Case 1: Fellow I used to go to school with wrapped himself around a telegraph pole outside Mater Hospital Crows Nest,
Result: 1 vegetable.
Case 2:Young neighbour of ours and friend of our sons was going to Wentworth
Avenue to pick up some parts for his bike, idiot does right turn across his bows.
Result:Loss of leg below knee, still going through rehab. 3 years later
My son had a Honda 1100 cc bike that he hotted up,nothing could catch it,lent it to a mate of his,got chased by police all over Naremburn,Chatswood, eventually ended up parking bike in girlfriends lounge room, had to back the next day with a panel van to retrieve it. I had tow trucks in those days and had scanners in nearly every room, used to be heart attack material every time he took the f*****g thing out.
Glad he woke up and sold the thing.
Rant over!:D

Hope all goes well and your fighting fit soon mate. Make it a priority to get another bike.
I gave up mine in 1980 and it's the worst mistake of my life. Bikes are a lifestyle not just a way to get around. Hopefully I'll be back on one soon, gunna sell all my model aircraft gear, to hard to fly these days with the insurance costs and politics involved.
Like the Royal Enfields but if I can find a way to get a Bonnie or a Speedmaster I'll rejoin the Triumph ranks. First bike was a Trumpet, a 150 Terrier.
