I think I've caused enough grief lately to have my name permanently scratched off the election roll for deputy Shirriff, now Al has sold out.

He's gone all quite hasn't he.

Yoohoo Al,

Just something for you to do OK

We're not quite as backwards as all that. Some of our homes have running water inside these days, with faucets and all. And I hear tell there may be some of them thar indoor dunnies available before too long. :D

But you're right in that our fav'rit activity is to sit around the old pot-belly stove down to the gen'ral store and chew tobacco (spittin' on the sawdust floor, of course), eatin' boiled peanuts and tellin' each other how we coulda won the Civil War if the Damnyankees hadn't took us at Gettysburg. ;)

Never saw it or read it, but it sounds like something from a Tennessee Williams character. And I don't think I've every said anything original anyway. I first heard that from my grandmother.

Have to say as I kid, I never heard one word (damn) without the other (yankee).

Still have no idea what outback was referring to.

Is a yankee a bit like a pulley like a whan key?

Now I am confused...

Actually, I think "damn yankees" came from a Bugs Bunny cartoon, where Yosemite Sam was a confederate, with his bulldog with tiny back legs called Belvedere ("Oh Belvedere, come heah boy") and the beagle/bassett type dog was a yankee trying to replace Belvedere as the Plantation hound.:)

And here I am thinking they came from north of the Mason Dixon line.
