On my 4wd I have a heavy duty vacuum brake system for a trailer. After recently fitting a mistral 1 hp split air con to our small kitchen the cogs in the ol' noodle started to churn. Could I modify the vacuum brake line to vacate the air con line ? Would it be powerful enough ? The unit compressor is next to the driveway. Regards to all.........Lionel

Hey Lionel,

When I installed my split system it cost $88 to have a fridgy come out, vac the system, check for leaks and sign my warranty card.

I am sure you can find a similar bloke to come out, contry to popular belief most blokes don't mind coming out to comission a system, it is money for nothing for them.

It would not work.
The vacuum pumps used in refrigeration are two stage and create a much better vacuum than the one on your brake system will.

Sorry to hear that China,

I would start calling commercial fridgys they would probably be more receptive, I know we used to be able to get help from the guys who serviced the cassette systems in our server rooms. The will more than likely be used to coming out and doing small repairs etc.

Good Luck - I just called the Ager guys about a commissioning a 5kW system that they supply - unit cost on a 5kW reverse cycle - $1065 and to commission the system $149 - price has gone up a bit in a few years.

Most companies contract out the work of installing to subbies nowadays, they're more interested in sales than service. :(

Try contacting one of the installers, or look thru the phone-book for the "little guys." Of course, as with any "trade," you gotta watch out for the cowboys, but most would be happy to do the job.

Using anything other than a proper vac pump is unacceptable, also you need to get the warranty card signed by a licenced fridgey to validate your warranty.

Definitely ring around if you dont know any fridgeys although this time of the year makes it very hard to find anyone.

TCNS, you actually use cassette systmes in your server rooms? not many do it that way any more (or ever should have).

Yes and no

The old ones that are small and in high rise building use casettes - not enough water flow to change it. Most of them run smalll racks nothing really big - only be 5 or 6 racks total

The purpose built ones .... no way :)
