Dont know if this is the right place to ask, but here goes.
Going through the members list I see many members that have not been active for 2,3,4 years .....wondering why these cant be wiped.....Thought that it would free up some room, the crap you have to sort through when looking for members we wish to contact...is shocking...anyway just a thought.

I could see all sorts of problems cropping up with that.
What about the msgs they've posted? Who'd they be attributed to? Simply deleted as well? Then what about the information they'd imparted... we'd have threads that wouldn't make sense because key posts had gone.
What about threads they'd started? Same thing... just delete the thread and there'd be whole blocks of info gone.
Of course, admin could be selective and twiddle key posts and threads worth keeping, attributing them to a generic Nevyn, but... man, that'd be a whole lot of work for little real gain! I'm sure Neil & his crew would be really eager to take that chore on! :D
It sounds good, but I don't really think it'd be practical. Oh, the joys of databases.

Kekemo - Have, over the last 12 mths deleted more than 3,000 members who had never posted or had any visible activity for 4 years. Every month we delete or deny access to another 30 - 50 new members who come here to spam the forums or have other ulterior motives, etc.
Would love to be able to delete some of the oldies but just not feasible. also we have had a lot of people who have been members for 2, 3, 4, years or more who are now starting to come back and contribute again after laying dormant for years.
This may be due to the Prize Draws or maybe they have a current project they need help with and this is the first time they have needed us since they registered.
It would love to have a clean up and renumber all the members from 1 to whatever, it would make things a lot easier. We often have to draw as many as 30 numbers before finding a member eligible for the Prize Draws. Would be a lot easier if we just had to draw one or two.
Cheers - Neil :)

Kekemo - I know there were reasons for it but even you laid dormant as a poster for over 12 mths from Aug 05 to Sept 06. It is possible that in a major clean up of dormant members you may have been deleted.
People come and go for all sorts of reasons.

Thanks for explaining. I didn't know about the data base thingy....see we learn each day, I'm glad I posted helps learn a little more about this forum. I guess you have enough to do than worry about silly post from dorks like me.
Sorry for that.
Ok, I will stay out of the computer world & stick to the woodworking.
Have found the forum extremely good for info that I'm looking for. Will seek a little more help regards purchasing from the states next...found the hinges that I have been looking for since I started woodwork......now just saving to get them...
Your a great crew, thanks for putting up with the dim-witted at times.

Kekemo Your question wasn't dimwitted, dorky or anything else. It was quite valid and something many have probably thought about.
When it comes to dim-wits on this forum you aren't even close to being in that league, we've got some absolute doozies.
Cheers - Neil :)
