Demolishing cement path

I've got a cement path I want to remove. The path is about 1 metre wide, and runs about 4 metres long. Should I hire a jack-hammer for this? Or, is it likely I could split it up with a large mallet?

Hire a jackhammer. Concrete can be hard to break up. It dosen't cost much to hire one.

Just make sure you tell the hire mob what you want it for and they will give you the correct one for the job.

Big sledgehammer and maybe a crow bar, good for other work later just watch the bisters. Good workout material:D :D :D

Of course a jackhammer is easier but your not doing all that much.

Paths are usually only a couple of inches thick, a sledgie will do it. But if DavidG is going to lend you his hammer, go for it!

On related matters, and reinforcing that a jack-hammer is probably the way to go:

If I broke up the concrete nice and small, presumably I could use it as coarse fill at the bottom of a new retaining wall that will be built nearby?

This would save paying to dump the concrete at the tip, and then having to buy a load of coarse fill for the drainage channel of the retaining wall.
