re shower fall to waste

Hello all,

New to this forum.

I am renovating the ground floor bathroom in my house. The floor is a slab and the same level as the rest of the house.

I am wanting to create a shower cubicle 1400mm x 800mm hobless with a frameless shower screen. I want this to be the same level as the rest of the floor.

The thing is i want to create a fall to waste in the shower cubicle but i dont want to build up the whole bathroom floor to create a fall in the cubicle.

I was thinking of possibly cutting a fall to waste in the slab in the cubicle by grinding/chiseling/cutting etc..

Has anyone ever done this or would there be any problems doing this or does anyone have any advise about this??? :confused:

I was planning on using a grinder with a diamond blade to cut a whole lot of cuts into the slab in the cubicle and then chisel it out.

Any thoughts or advise you may have would be greatly appreciated.

you would need 10mm in 600mm of fall absolute minimum.
With hobless and frameless the fall would need to start about 500 outside the closed door.
The shape of the shower base could also be dictated by what the finished floor will be constructed of. Large tiles, small tiles, welded vinyl

If you are going to refall the shower then you almost certainly need to jackhammer the waste out and set it to the new hieght. It might be easyier to knock out a bigger area of slab and refall it all.

as I'm sure youre aware, usual is to step up at entry tpo bathroom 25mm, which is a screeed put in by tiler. this is done for 2 reasons - the fall into the shower waste, and also the fall into the floor waste - not sure how you are going to accomplish a floor waste fall with flat a flat slab?

As to the question, the major risk is that taking out 30mm of concrete could take you down to the reo - as to what you do then is anyones guess (these things are sometimes hard to stop once started).

By the way, frameless spray a crap load of water, so I would assume that the shower head will be on the 800 wall with door at the end of the shower - I'd also consider a shower head thats more of a rain type - the higher pressure water savers create substantial spray.

usually this problem is solved be putting a aluminium angle onto the floor that is about 10mm higher than the surrounding floor lever and screeding the floor so that the top of the finished floor slopes back to the waste ,the angle is usually placed under the joint of the glass screen
