G'day,

It's finally come and I can start on what will probably be a stop & start project, my hand tool cabinet which will be made from Tassie Oak floorboards and Jarrah.

I don't want to laquer it, but what I'd like is some opinions on what wax etc. should I finish it with or other?

I believe that many of the old Journeyman's toolboxes were finished with spar varnish so that they could tolerate getting wet occasionally. However, I see no reason why some Danish Oil and some of Neil's wax wouldn't do a very good job, especially if you don't plan on taking it on a hand-cart around the shire :D

The type of finiash can depend on the type of effect you want.

Oil based finishes yellow with age.
So does orange shellac
Lacquer doesn't yellow quite as much

White shellac and water based clears don't yellow
