Can someone please tell me how to put skirting around stairs. It is Victorian profile...230 high..each riser is 75. The problem is how to tie it all together. The skirting is too big and bulky for the stairs, it looks all out of place. Hope this makes sense to someone. I thought about putting a smaller profile quad type timber. Would this look ok? The problem then is to tie it in at the top of the stairs as the skirting there is around a corner and this needs to be 230 skirting. HELP??

Hi Ms Mac, and welcome.
Do you have some photos just to better understand the problem?

What Rookie said!
Are you angling the skirting down each side, like a baserail, profiled to the treads & risers? Or are you skirting around the spandrel? (The "closet space" under a flight).

Hi MsMAc, If you PM me with your address, I would be happy to drop in and have a look - NO CHARGE - I go out to Eaglehawk at least once a week, and will be out there today and tomorrow. Might be able to offer some suggestions for you to think about at least. Think I have an idea about what the problem is. live in Axedale but work mostly in Benders.

Yup, spandrel. :) The triangular(ish) piece up top between two arches, or the triangular "closet space" below a flight of stairs.

That's good to hear, so long as you're happy with it. Hope you get around to posting pix of it, you may give us some ideas for a similar situation. ;)

As soon as I work out how to post a pic I will do. I am happy with it, it did take BIT OF CREATIVITY, but nottoo bad I reckon.

OnYa! That's surely splendiferous news MsMac - isn't it funny how a solution comes around eventually, if you let your mind work on the problem for a bit. Well done - feel proud!!:)
Best wishes,
Jeff
