Skew ChiDAMN!!

A few times recently some of my posts have, AFAICT, disappeared into thin air.
The first few times, they had references to "commercial" URLs (eg. David Springett's site) and although I thought it odd, I simply shrugged and assumed 'twas to do with some copyright matter or similar of which I wasn't aware.
However, recently a couple of others have gone AWOL, which were simply inoffensive questions and totally on-topic for the thread they were in. I know they were posted and not my simply cancelling the browser window by mistake, 'cos I always proof-read both the preview and the final posted msg. (Foot-in-mouth is not unknown here, nor is my deciding at the last minute to delete a post that I've slaved over for half-an-hour and then pretend it never happened. My in-built censor tends to have looooong coffee-breaks at inopportune moments. ;))
Yet, a day or so later... ??? What gives?

Would it be unduly onerous for moderators to substitute for the deleted matter something like "Deleted: personal attack", or "Deleted: unseemly content", or "Deleted: spam"? Such Moderator's comments would be a deterrent to people who might be considering posting something dodgy. At the moment, if something is deleted, the offender is not subjected to any sanction, other than banning for outrageously offensive posts.

Yes, and the same with me. Either it is a bug, or a moderator (http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/member.php?u=4676)

RockerActually we do- may be something only mods/admins can see:confused: Will have to see if that is something that can be seen by all.
Just tested it - no a non mod can't see the comment  bugger.
We also have other abilities to sanction someone way out of line, but tend not to so as not to over-moderate. But we can.
Perhaps a reddie before we delete may be a way of indicating when an individual has gone too far, without embarrasing them all over the board (unless it persists, or is extreme).

Skew, did one of your posts about Cliff Rogers piece of wood disappear last night?
Cos at one stage i noticed there was 30 replies, then when i looked back 3-4 minutes later , it had gone backwards to 29

That won't work either 'cos any rep points given for a post disappear when the post is deleted.

Can you give me an example and where please Skew?
Not off the top of my head. :( The latest I know of was the 2k6 Pen Swap giveaway (http://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=38712) thread. I posted a question with some stupid comments, then decided to trim the crap, but stuffed up and del'd the original post. I was sidetracked for a while, then reposted just the question. Then.. today? yesterday? (Dave? My mind is going. I can feel it.) 'twas AWOL and I reposted for a third time.
I guess it is possible it's all happening only in my head  but there've been four or five times in the just the last couple of days that I've thought "What the... Haven't I already answered this?"

No, my sense of taste was having a coffee break while I penned that msg and upon it's return it panicked and hit the DEL button. It did relent and allow me to repost a modified version later, though.

I thought they'd be logged or whatever. There should be at least a couple that I've deleted myself... unless that's all in my head too. Now I'm not sure whether I'm actually typing this or not!

Turps? Nup. That could be the problem: alcohol deficiency. Or perhaps caffeine overdose? More likely it's just the onset of senility. :p

Andy.
I just checked back on you posts, going back 10 pages x 15 posts, and there is nothing that shows up as deleted, except 1 by you.

But I remember at least 3 msgs I del'd myself in that time.

Skewie - Just went back through the logs as far as 31st August (thats a bloody lot of logs 1770 to be exact) and the only post of yours to be deleted fron then until now was 6th Oct in the "Bad prang at Bathurst" thread.
Cliff had more than a couple and Aussie Turner, well what can I say, you top the lot with dozens of posts deleted or edited.
We have the ability to hand out infractions which until now we have been a little slow on using, however this is one way of letting you know that a post has been moderated and giving a bit of a but kick to boot.
A member can get up to 9 infraction points in a 10 day period. If you get number 10 you are automatically banned for 24 hrs.You can receive infraction points or just a warning dependingon the seriousness of the infraction.
Sounds like fun to me - Auzzie you could end up on an extended holiday.
Oh yeah the points only last for 10 days and then they automatically clear themselves.
Cheers - Neil :)
PS Am giving you one now Auzzie just because you topped the list of deleted posts. and because of the post above that was edited.

So they're definitely logged. And no others? :o:confused: It must be the other bloke living in my head, then... but then why aren't the posts he del'd listed? :D
I know I wrote at least one that has disappeared without trace... one I spent the best part of a couple of hours composing, a post in one of the ringed goblet threads where I posted multiple links to img's on Springett's site. Which is when I first thought "OK... someone doesn't like the links or it may be copyright?"
I dunno. Maybe it is all just in my head. It's been one of those weeks, so I'll just concede defeat, go back to my desk and hope it doesn't appear to happen again. [sigh]

Ahhh... that might explain the hatemail from the the Greenpeace forums. No wonder I couldn't find my WIP on "finishing my Wollemi Pine fence & gates with Whale Oil and a Dolphin-skin chamois." :o
But yeah, I guess that's possible. I've done it before and a lot of questions seem to pop up over'n'over again ad nauseum; perhaps I'm just suffering deja vu. [shrug]

Skewie - Might be a good idea compose the bigger ones in wird pad or similar so you gan save them as a text file. That way you can cut and past them onto the forum.
And remember to hit the Submit button on the left and not the Preview button on the right then the back button on the mouse. Don't ask how I know this.

I've been doing my multi-post WIPs that way, you're probably right about using it on the bigger single posts, too.
Hmmm... I wonder if my new mousie (no, not a Scottish one) might be the culprit? 'Tis one of those damned 5-button jobs and a few times I've hit the "side" buttons with the keyboard or coffee cup, instantly screwing up what I'm working on. :o

Points are not worth anything anyway, but the actual reddie or greenie remain as far as I know.

Has happened to me more than once & I remember 'cos I've had greenies from mods for something that they thought was funny only to loose them again when another mod came along & didn't think it was PC.
