Guys,

I'm having my patio built (finally).

I need to move sand from one part to another to get closer to finished levels of the concrete.

Now over about 14 metres there is about 400mm drop. As stated above i intend to move as much of the sand from the high end to the low end. I will probably still need to add more sand at the low end.....

What type is recommended?

Hi spartan,

Ok compactable, cheap sand we call it fill sand, not sure about Brissy.
Dont forget recycled sand, cheaper still and compacts well enough for slabs.
400mm is a big drop.. sound like that needs retaining to me (without seeing the situation)
good luck

Hi,

the 400 drop is as it stands now....it will be more like 290-300 after I move sand from one side to the other.

The carpernters I have on site are saying that I will probably need to put in edge beams....They are offering this advice because they are putting in their posts and footing before the slab...

150mm thick, by about 300 high for about 7 metres, so I'm assuming based on my $58 Sqm that I'd be looking at about an extra $500 or so in concrete costs (extra concrete, reinforcement, and labour/form work)
