This was sent to me from Touchwood.

Hi ,
can you give me any suggestions as to why I keep getting logged off the forum - originally I thought it was because I left it inactive for more than 15 minutes or something, but I seem to get logged off when I am actively looking through the forum.

Any suggestions welcome. Jenny.

Couple of things come to mind:

Check you browser cookie settings - they are needed by the forum to stay logged in.

Depending on how you are moving about the forum. Sometimes I follow a link in one thread and it opens a new window, and I'm not logged in, in that window.

It is a strange one - I think it is going to be something about how your browser is handling cookies in the end. Oh, and have you checked the "remember me" box next to the login?

Not much help - sorry

With you said about following links Stu.

If you enter the forums using the www.woodworkforums.com url, the reason that you may have problems with the links is that most of the links are www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com.au/ (whatever). Some browser store the cookies under the url not the contents of the site. So if you log in under one url then a link takes you to the other you may not have cookies on your pc to automatically log you in under the other url.

Hope that makes sense:(

Have you recently updated or installed a virus program. It could be automatically emptying your Temporary Internet Files where your cookies for running the Forum are stored every time you shut down Internet Explorer. A friend of mine has AVG on her computer and I noticed that it does this

Thanks for the suggestions, will look into each and see what I find -

I am entering eith the .ubeaut. bit

I have done this randomly from time to time. Does it need doing every time?
I thought it was to do with 'it' remembering my password without having to tyoe it in each time.

Have you recently updated or installed a virus program Our internet computer is a Mac, so we don't have all the issues of viruses like my IMB computer does. But, no, no new installs to my knowledge.

Will do!

Jenny;)

Don't know how on a Mac but on a PC in Internet Explorer, click Tools, Internet Options, Privacy, Advanced, tick the Override automatic cookie handler & tick accept on First & Third party Cookies.
That will help PC users.

I have observed thye following both with IE and firefox.

If you open two windows neither having been loged in.
log in on one window this window or others that spring from it will be loged in
the other window will not be loged in neither will windows that spring from it.

same on this bb and on other stuff such as ebay.

If you create & shut down windows all over the place its hard to keep track of this.

clicking remember mee should solve this problem..

cheers

Any suggestions welcome. Jenny.I had the same issue after the forum went offline. It seems stable now though, I logged off from all PCs, laptop and PDA then logged in again. It did the same thing but seems okay today. Fingers crossed.

Oh, cookies enabled, virus updates nil effect (PDA has none). One thing I did do was clear the cache and cookies before retiring last night.

Edit: Nope, spoke too soon. Just had to log back in again.

This is strange, I've been logged in since before the crash.

Try removing cookies, tmp Internet files and clearing caches. If it keeps logging you out could you post what browser and OS you use so I can try to recreate the problem.

cheers

Browser: Firefox 1,5,0,6
OS: XP Pro

Other relevant info: logged in from multiple PCs behind a router, using multi-sessions. At some point they seem to "time out".
