I looked at bringing in an old pickup from the States a while back and the price it costs to do it is really cheap.
I never did get around to doing it though.

also too, on most of the heavily modified pickups and cars, iv noticed that they almost always have a lot of parts from other care to improve the performance and handling...so what are these hotrods like to drive compared to your average falcon.
do people use them for there getting around from A to B

Not much point in having 'em otherwise... I hate collectors who lock 'em away in garages for the rest of their (the owners') durance vile. :(
My faves were a couple of pontiacs; a '66 GTO and a '67 Parisienne hard-top convertible. But I s'pose they're only just beginning to be considered "old" cars, even though they were most definitely hot-rods.
One that woudl've been my fave by far, if I'd ever gotten it on the road, was a '55 Ford Mainline. Blown big-block 390 (3/4-race cam, dual Holley 780 double-pumpers) thru FMX auto to Tank Fairlane rear end. I put my heart'n'soul into building that car! Hehehe... A bloke up the road had just bought an SLR 5000 (they were bleeding edge back then) and was "testing his tyres" up'n'down the road outside, showing off to his mates. I just happened to decide to take the mainline for a quick road-test at the same time. ;)
It was obviously unfinished; no exhausts, just the headers hung upside down with the bonnet removed but the SLR owner didn't want to play anymore and disappeared back in his own garage. :( Just as well... I didn't have a tray in the back either (or a fuel tank... just a 20gallon drum strapped in the psgr seat  ) and anytime I did more than touch the accel pedal it just broke traction and sat on the spot going through the gears. Would've been faster to get out and walk... but she looked and sounded the part at least. :D:D:D
I really, really wish I still had some pix of those cars. Unfortunately a girl-friend came along shortly afterwards, which is why 'twas never finished, and all my pix just magically "disappeared." [sigh]

Mate, that blood black ute looks just about stuffed! The suspension all sagged, some silly buggers tooken off the bumper bars so ya got nothing to put the rod holders on... it don't even have a roo bar ..... no racks for the ladders and evryone knows a traytop is better for carting sand and metal... wouldn't give you two bob for it unless its restored!

gota agree with the "should be used" comments. but I like them. never had one, yet.
a good mate just sold a 1929 model A ute that had been "restored" similar to the black one at the top here. He had it (bought it) for 12 months and it went out of the shed 4 times.
Problem is he got me interested in the "scene" and I want to build one now but it will have to be a regular user for me, I cant stand anything that I dont get my moneys worth out of.

hey forunna...
i agree mate, ifi was to get onee it would be a everday car, and my only car actually, not a park it in the garage show car to take out and pose on sunday....
it would look as fancy as a show car but only on the outside and interior trim, under the hood would be standard efi v8 , for easy maintainence and carry through to the rest of the car with 'normal' parts, no custom made stuff unless it has to be...

I'm thinking some of the old Brit utes could be brought up to speed a bit, into overblown retro. Like the Vanguard 6 of 1962-3 vintage, beautiful thing!

I am currently in the market for an old school style ute, like old F100/150s or even Dodges, i had a 1 ton dodge but the old lady pulled the pin on the deal. I know that its going to cost me 40k + to rebuild but ill have it for ever.
My best mate has a FJ ute total restored. nice ride.
Best part of old school utes is the timber trays!!!!!!

40k aint really that much considering if you ever did sell you'll paobably loose little or maybe even it might go up as these are rare...
by the time i finish paying of my AU falcon ute it would have cost me a bit over 30k and would be worth if i'm lucky 10k...and i'v only had it 4yrs
never again will i take out finance for a bloody car...
i'm starting to put together my thoughts on my next car/truck too (before this one is wortthless), it would be a keeper not something that is worthless in a few yrs...
love the F100's, dodge is even better....but it has to be good as my only car not a second car...
i had an old fj45 landcruiser once, bought it for 4k and sold it for 4k...and it was a heap of crap little beauty, yes it was all bodgy and i did'nt have a clue about tech stuff but it did have a 308 in it!, that was music to my ears, it used to roar like magic, i think back now and it would have made a great custom sports/hotrod/4x4/truck...man i had some 4x4ing fun in that.:)

nice link there are some serious nice rides there.
I have got a 2001 SS ute which cost 45k brand new now after 5yrs went to trade it in and got offered 12k get real.
so keeping my SS and going to build a cruiser for week end plus as a promo vehicle for work. thus tax right off.
i search ebay plus trading post every week and know ill get what i want soon, as this is my first auto build i want some thing that is still driveable and not a ground up resto which knowing me would never get finished.
my plan is a nice pick up with air bags set up so its got a low ride height, new front end with updated brakes, power steering and B&M style shifter. also be nice to set it up for LPG to reduce running costs.
whats your plans.

hey Gaza !!!
yeh those new cars sure do drop in value real quick don't they...
weel i finish paying off my AU next march, so between now and then i'll be doing my homework...
not sure what sort of ute but it's got to be good to drive, last thing i want is something that drives like an old semi, will have to go for some test drives...
anyway it's got to be a ute, black, fuel injected v8 , not interested in old tech carbies and that, saw a old holden 1 tonner with Gen v8...!
like the old falcon xb, looks like a real movie muscle car, something that XXX would drive...cool !
another thing to think about to is will it be something that everyone want's to steal...that's the last sort of car i need...
