Hi

I've got a brick veneer house and would like to put in a door to the outside. I'm not sure how wide to cut the hole in the bricks and how to go about finishing it off from the outside? The door jamb is all made up and ready to go into the timber frame work. Should I cut the hole in the bricks the distance form the back of one side of the jamb to the other? Or should it be a bit bigger?

Thanks

From memory, before you start cutting holes in the bricks, you are going to need a lintel above the doorway, something like a great big bit of angle iron, going across the opening and into either side of the brickwork to hold the bricks up above your door frame.

Yeah you need that aswell, but what kind of door is it first? Is it pre-made aluminium door or are you hanging doors yourself?

I don't need a lintle in the doorway because I will be removing the bricks up to the top course. The necessary support has already been installed in the timber frame work to support the roof over the door.

I intend putting in double opening doors. The jamb has already been made to fit the size of the doors.
