Can anyone please tell me what the normal spacing of boards for an external deck is when using 90mm hardwood timbers?

thanks for clearing that up - I gues an "end for end" spacing would make the deck a lot cheaper though!!!

If i understand correctly you can use the nail method (which is what we did) or buy a spacer jig from bunnies.

If I had to do my deck again, i'd go that way.

See Bruce.
That is what happens to an average bloke that moves to Casino and works with Lismorons.
His brain turns to Sh it...

A normal bloke that doesn't work with Lismorons (me) just knows what is the correct way of using 3" nails...

maybe you need to come back to god's country...:D

3" nails!

You blokes are flash! We always (used to use) 2" nails because that's what we were using to fix the deck with.

Actually in the good old days there were two standard spacings,

"the 2" nail" when the deck was going to be relatively dry and neat looking.

"the chisel thickness" when more water penetration was called for. This gave a lighter slightly more rustic appearance (and saved timber too).

(this post gave me flashbacks of days spent on my backside punching off floors! I was so quick they all called me "lightning" too  :D )

Cheers,

P

Are you joking, is there such a thing as a spacer jig ?

Yep found it after i did my deck. Its about 30cm long so that you can do 3 or 4 planks at a time.
