Hettich Hinges for Kitchen - A Challenge

Hi Folks,

Here's a challenge for our experienced members....

Received my Laminex Redikits and also Laminex Contour doors for the princely sum of $3K all ready to install. :) :) :) Have commenced putting the kits together, no problem, (except none of the drill holes are countersunk).

The hinged supplied are Hettich EcoMat like this

And the drill hole pattern in the doors as supplied is like this

I can't work out how to secure the hinge to the doors. There appear no specific wide screws to use and the diameter of the small holes would never hold any screws anyway.

Am I missing something from the kits? Or have Laminex drilled the wrong holes in the doors??

Any suggestions on how to resolve would be welcome.

Your holes are all the right size and in the right spots
You should have some white plastic plugs with a threaded hole that is slightly larger than the 10mm holes to hammer into the holes. you can then use two machine screws that are about 5mm dia.
The newer hinges don't even require the plugs as they have a snap shut type that expands in the bigger hole with the smaller holes to locate it square on the door
I would be going back to your supplier as you seem to be missing the plugs and screws

As djstimber mentioned ring the supplier up and say you have been sent the wrong hinges the ones you want are the knock in type. He can send you the plastic plugs and the 6mm screws, all you need do is knock them in with a soft headed hammer then screww the hinges to them.

The white plastic plugs djstimber's talking about should be part of a plastic assembly on the underside of the hinge cups. As has been said, these are the old type. If it ain't there, you've no real choice other than to complain. Guy's not quite correct when he says you've been sent the wrong ones... the newer ones will still fit the cut-out but don't need the two screw-holes, being auto-wedged on installation.

Frankly, the more of these hinges I've installed, the less I like 'em. But that's my problem, neh? ;) The newer type do hold their adjustment bit better though, especially when kids swing off the doors. :rolleyes:

Thanks everyone. The resolution is that Laminex have left the dowels (must be the plugs you refer to) out of the kits which as resolution they are going to airbag me a bunch.

Appears I am their lab rat for the new Laminex Redikits.

actually you will find that laminex have drilled the pin holes in the doors by mistake ,only drilling the 35mm hole gives the manufacturer the freedom to change the supplier of hinges to meet cost demands

I'm about to get a quote for a Laminex Redikit kitchen. How did you go with yours in the end? What did you get for your 3 grand? Did that include the benchtops? Any idea what the door cost was? Were you happy with the service and after sales care?

My kitchen is going in next weekend. I have aready constructed 1/3 of the kits which I did one evening.

Despite Laminex not putting in the plastic knock in lugs, everything else appears to be good as gold. The kits line up well together, however you will need to drill countersink holes for the screws.

Yes, Happy so far. Laminex did muck up on one line item and send me a 300w cabinet instead of a 400 which was sales order person error. I called and they replaced within 2 weeks without charge and I kept the other cabinet too.

All of the packs and cabinets were well packed with sheets of card and mdf in between, so no problem with damage on anything

The base units cost me $1284 approx 7m of mainly wide 2/3 drawers, a few cupboards and 4m of overheads, Contour doors and panels with rounded edges in Fossil $1260, modern bar type handles $114, and sheet cut down for kick plates 160, delivery $45 all the way to Perth from the plant in Victoria. So $3151 inc GST for everything.

I also had them quote squareform benchtop for $1,500, but decided not to take this up in favour of Bizassa Stone. We saved so much on the cabinets that we could afford to go for stone type benchtops. So I think I will get out of it for about $8,000 including some cash jobs for plumbing, electrical, bulkheads, own demolition etc.

We were quoted by comanies anywhere between 11 and 13K without all the add ons, so think I have done pretty well.

From your other post, sounds like you are more than handy, so have a crack at the design and cabinets, but suggest (as I have done), pay a kitchen installer cash for a saturday morning to level up and get you started on the doors.
