G'day Timbo

Go to your local hireshop and hire yourself a wallpaper steamer. They will have all the gear and can explain how it works. Average size lounge room took me about 2hrs to strip

Timbo funny you ask that
I removed a whole house full of wallpaper in Bendigo a few years back.

All the walls differed from each other quite remarkably ... I think it was more the type of wall paper (more vinylly or papery) and if the paper was pre-pasted.

The papery pre-pasted (i think) came off really easily. Get a corner a pull. Most of it came off ... a squirt from a $1 squirt/mist bottle a couple of times and the rest lifted very easily.

Some of the papery stuff was stuck a lot harder ( I think this was the non-prepasted stuff). A hired wallpaper steamer worked really well on this stuff but a fair bit slower.

Some of the worse stuff we had to content with was like floor vinyl. Real plastic on the outside with a papery backing. Steamer wouldn't penetrate unless the plastic outer layer was ripped off first. This left a thick rough paper layer. The steamer was still slow at this stage and the method that worked best was to give it a thorough soaking with the squirt bottle but not leave it too long (5-10 mins or so) as the plasterboard underneath became a bit soft and was easy to dig into with the scraper.

Best thing to do is give it a bit of a go. See how much will rip off easily and give some of the remaining a squirt (very dilute detergent seems to work best). If it's stubborn go and hire a steamer from one of the paint shops in town ...think I got mine from the Dulux shop ... southern end of williamson or mundy st ... but there was no real reason for that ... except bunnings was another 15 mins away.

Oh and Good luck

yep, steamer is the way to go. Also, some vinyl paper has an easy peel top layer, try pulling that off first before steaming or resorting to roughing it up before steaming.
