Hi All.

Have been following the insulation posts with some interest for a while now and as I'm about to embark on my own reno that of course involves insulating the ceiling thus have a question to ask.

Does anyone know if using silver batts interferes with the RF frequencies used in the operation of auto garage doors ?

I'm not technically minded when it comes to RF frequencies and interferences etc but it would be a shame to install these bad boys only to have it stop the garage door from opening.

I've asked a few sales guys and they seem a bit cagey on the reply.

Any help / comments welcome.

is it a rf remote or infra red?
where will the antenna be if its an rf remote?
will there be an antenna on the inside as well as the outside of the carport?
if the silver batts are on the ceiling only, what are the sides and door of the carport made from and what insulation will there be?
Is there a window that the antenna can be mounted near?

Lowset brick house, double garage, singe window to one side, internal wall on the other.

B&D Controlla Door 4 to be specific with controller using the 433 Mhz range. Standard install with controller/reciever ceiling mounted beneath the drive unit. No external arial but does use internal coax as antenna.

<edit> Silver batts are for ceiling install only thus directly over the entire unit. </edit>

If the only change is to put the foil in the ceiling, it won't worry it. ie. if it will work now, then it won't change.

If you mounted the coax antenna above the foil it may affect it - seems this isn't an issue.

We've just had a new extension and there is silver one side sarking fitted in the walls and under the tile battens. This hasn't stopped the portable or mobile phones nor the radio part of our stero system from operating inside the house.

Maybe the sales staff were cagey because they just didn't have a clue.

Our cordless phone still works after installing double silver pleated batts + double sided sarking in walls and top hat silver batts in ceiling.

Dont see why it you door opener would not also work!
