My understanding is that the server(s) that host uBeaut also host a few other sites, so the numbers of members on our (or rather Neil's!) forum isn't necessarily an indicator of the load on said server(s).

It doesn't matter when I'm on, early morning through late evening (GMT -8) the response is great. I can down load pictures about as fast as I can click.
I frequent another forum here in the US. When that forum is running properly, the performance is as good as yours. SWMBO (Not a woodworker at ALL) was impressed with the response from Australia. She remarked that she wished that her Beanie Baby site was that good.
When thinking about it... Where is your server for this forum? Is it here in the US? The response time makes it seem like it is here.
But then again, your server could be close to the Australian backbone (In netwroking terms) and therefore closer to me, just a few network hops to Huntington Beach. Your access may require quite a few more network hops to reach the server.
(It's all smoke and mirrors but watch out for the little guy behind the green curtain.)

New server is in US There are only 2 sites on it, both are Bulletin Boards this is one, the other is http://www.cyclingforums.com/index.php almost 4.5 million posts, 113,576 members. Just a tad bigger than us and the main reason why we slow down from time to time. Their Most users ever online was 4135, ours.... 574
OWe usually slow down around midnight, that's when the database is backed-up and the same around 8am no idea why.
We are waiting for newer version of Forums which could run faster as this one still has the odd bug in it.
Server has been down a fair bit recently, usually in short spurts lasting from a few minutes to an hour or so.
Cheers - Neil :)

Thanks Neil for the explanation. I've noticed that this forum will go slow (or #$@!! stop) after I've been on line with no problems for hours! Nothing for it but to go surf somewhere else for 10 minutes and then come back.Bloody annoying sometimes!
Cheers

I'm usually "on" in the mornings and have never experienced the server issue. Could it be the times you are "on".
