Did you see that story on "Second World" the other night on TV? There's a woman who spends up to 12 hours a day "playing" it. She has a "business" where she designs and sells clothes and other crap, which people buy for game dollars (called Linden dollars). Because it's not that easy to come by Linden dollars in the game (just like the real stuff) there is an exchange rate whereby you can buy Linden Dollars for real cash, so she sells her monopoly money to other players for the real stuff and actually makes a living out of it.

Its quite common, people buying roles/events etc in online computer games. That is fully equiped room in the game Habbo Hotel (http://www.habbo.com/).

Check this one out (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/World-of-Warcraft-Level-60-Warrior-Blackrock-US-PVP_W0QQitemZ140011129104QQihZ004QQcategoryZ4596QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) - someone selling a character in World of Warcraft.

And then there is this (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3145432) An online 'funeral' for a person who died, who played world of warcraft game a lot. During the online funeral, there was a sort of armistice of people involved in the game (there are millions of them) until this renegade mob of players turned up and shot the crap out of the people in the online funeral (http://www.yikers.com/video_world_of_warcraft_funeral_gets_trashed_by_vigilantes.html)

go figure

That is rich!!!

That they videoed it to taunt them - even funnier.

Do they realise that it is a game??? It is one thing to spend money buying it, but to spend real money to get virtual stuff - what are they thinking????

I've got some technician mates that sit around at work waiting for something to break. They have a lot of time on their hands (12 hour rotating shifts), and really get into online roleplaying games.
One of them hates another - but doesn't let on.

What he does to get revenge is build up 'favours' through alliances in the 'online world' - and then calls in all those favours to go and bash the hell out of his co-worker when the co-worker is at some critical stage of his game.
As he doesn't let on, his 'mate' comes and whiges and tells him all about it - and he sits back and provides sympathy - all the while laughing his guts out on the inside.
He also buys these characters, instead of building up points through playing the game, so his 'armies' get more powerful much quicker. He also builds these super powerful characters to sell, to fund the revenge.

Its very obsessive, but freaking funny!

That's how I came across the item - had his store listed so I could watch it if anything interesting (and cheap) popped up.

You'd think a woody would be more sensible.
