We had the wife’s family over for dinner last night. So I spent a couple of hours in kitchen to cook a few dishes.

#1 chicken and corn soup
#2 roasted duck skin wrapped in pancake with hoi sin sauce.
#3 stir fried roasted duck meat and chinese veg
#4 chicken and cashew nuts

No, the word for 'Cat' in Chinese is 'Duck'

Looks excellent Scotty.

I always find the problem with cooking Chinese is that the preparation takes sooooooooo long, and you have to go buy all those weird ingredients.

The pancakes sound a bit like Peking Duck.

I'm trying to picture you serving it all up and saying 'hold on please people, I need to take some photos of your meal before you begin. I have to show my friends on the woodworking forum what I've cooked up'. :D
I wonder what they were really thinking at that point. :D

So did you give them attitude when you served it so that they had the authentic Chinese dining experience? :D

No, it's easy. You just have to dip them in boiling water for a 30 seconds or so to before you start. The skin peels straight off.

Jow104 my friend. Cooking Chinese is all about preparation. Wash the veg, boil the cashew nuts, deep fried the cashew nut, cut up the chicken (or cat), cook the rice, crack the eggs, cut up the celery, peel the carrot, cut up the carrot, boil the carrot, make the tea. 2 hours seems too short. The cooking takes only 15 to 20 minutes.

Gumby, they are starting to think I am a member of a cult.:o

Arh, white man cooks Chinese. :D I told my mother-in-law so many times “not to try this at home” but she never listens. :D

It is all about procedure, you need to cook things in the right order. Not just maxing meat, vegetable and sauce together and heat them up. YUCK!! Don’t be fooled by those “Better homes and gardens” cook books.

I know that cooking chinese FOOD (thats for you, AL) is about knowing the cooking times of the cut up ingredients. This is the reason I haven't bothered, don't really want to get that fiddly. Be nice to learn the spice and flavour balancing though.

White man cooks chinese? I've been getting into cooking Japanese foods... Chinese won't be a problem, after all everyone knows that all things Japanese are superior to the Chinese.

dont u watch "iron chef" they always make one each for the tasters, one for the chairman and one for the camera. the irtonchef/challenger gets to eat the camera one after the photos.

I imagine our own "Iron Chef Chinese" eats his photos too...

Hey, I took photos because I would like to write my own cook book in the future.

Cook chicken & corn soup:
“crack eggs add to the hot water. When boiling add the sugar, the salt, chicken. Add potato starch, stir so soup like glue.”

Mick can translate it for me. :D

I have a screamer of a song re Chinese restaurant/cat, but I can't email it on this forum.

My Chinese mates call me a round eyed Gwielo, which I think means 'white ghost'

Never can tell tho, I wanted to put Chinese characters on my snowboard, got a Asian mate to write them out for me. Fortunately, I thought to double check at the local Chinese diner.

What was to read "Buddha rides with me" actually read "stick it up your ***, white boy"

Great sense of humour these guys.
