hello again

Can anyone shed light here:

Doors for the lined presses, coat cuboard and laundry cupboard that will be painted and the hinges showing (Butt hinges?).
We don't want a HUGE expense for these doors (15 of them!).
We want box overlay style.
Question: Can butt hinges be successfully used on MDF doors?
Or do you know where we can purchase pine doors with a simple one panel (? - not four panel or two panel, I hope you know the style we mean) box overlay design anywhere melbourne metro area?

Thanks for your time

You guys are a font of wisdom!!

You can't screw butt hinges into the edge of a MDF panel, well you can, but they'll fall out pretty quickly. You'll either have to glue some timber (say 19 x thickness of MDF) on the hinge edge or use "cup" hinges (the hinges that most kichen cabinet doors are hung with). What do you mean by "box overlay style" ?

Thanks Mick

'Box overlay' is what we were told is the name for doors or cupboards with the centre flat panel and a raised border, farm house kitchen cupboard look - hard to put into words. maybe I have my terms mixed up?
Thanks for your MDF warning though

You mentioned laundry doors in your post. MDF and water do not mix. If you want to use MDF where there is even the slightlest chance of moisture, make sure it is very well sealed.
