View Full Version : Sliding gate - how to/ product?

One of my new jobs, well not me ---my brother, is to build sliding gate rather than a swinging gate. It’s for a front gate, so it has to look good, with horizontal timber beams on the face, and the next point is around 1.8m high.

Has any one found a product or has dealt with the same problem??

Thanks

Make the frame from steel tube and get it powder coated - a pretty straight forward job. Screw the boards to the frame or glue them (lotsa muckin around) if you don't like the looks.

Look in the yellow pages and you will find places that sell auto opening equipment. They have the tracks and stuff that you need. Look at going the auto open route as it beats the hell out of manually opening and closing. Here in Perth they will sell you a kit (everything minus the gate), for about 1200 - 1300 bucks from memory.

Putting them in is easy and the shop should give you the low down on doing it right. As they say "taint rocket science".

Have fun....

exactly as mike has suggested, I built one for my last house. It worked a treat.

Have a look at this mob, they have some nice stuff... as well as a $750 opener.
