Battening

Hi all,

I'm putting a small (20-25sq/m) hardwood timber floor over a concrete slab. I was planing on using hardwood battens on top of the concrete, with finished floorboards over battens. My question is - Is there any regulation as to the minimum sizing of the battens? Or anything to avoid doing as to my proposed method?

Yes their is :- You can slice up 15mm ply into 50mm strips and fix these to your slab at 450mm centers, but if you have to level and pack up the battens to a specific height then it is best to use 45 x 19 hwd battens fixed at 450 mm centers.
