hi everyone
i was just surfing on the net looking at possible finishes and i came across something called "Fully Choked Woodgrain Polyurethane Finish".
the name suggests that this finish involves the grains of timber being completely filled or choked (?).
but how do you achieve this finish??
btw what finish would you prefer and suggest on a computer desk (silver ash & Jarrah). Satin?? or Gloss?? (people say that gloss on high use surface is not very suitable as it may show fine scrathces)

thanks

Poly on good wood has its limitations. The gloss stuff does show every scratch, and the one-pack is fairly soft so it will get a few, and it can't be repaired.

I reckon good timber that gets some wear benefits from Danish Oil. Build up a number of layers and it's tough and the grain is highlighted.

You can make your own or buy some. Home recipe: one third oil (pure tung or boiled linseed), one third poly and one third turps.
