Hello all,
I am a new member trying to find out as much info about our houses floorboards as possible. We have a gorgeous stained hall and then we have unstained floorboards through the dining room which we want to extend to the back of the house. (See 2x pics)http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j233/302gxl/Picture044.jpg http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j233/302gxl/Picture048.jpgHowever we think they are Tassie Oak -and they are old wide boards at 15cm (6 inches) wide. We have them under carpet in other rooms and were considering pulling them up from there but its a big job.
Can you guys confirm for me these boards are actually Tassie Oak?
Do you know where we might source some? - we need about 12m2.
Any any real tips on how to best pull up boards and reuse them....

They are Baltic Pine.

Yep, doesn't look dark enough for tas oak. Tend to agree with pine.

I have heard a couple of you and a friend saying it could be baltic pine - and i can actually get 6 inch baltic pine! Any thoughts on it being Red Deal though? This is another possibility but quite frankly if it looks like Baltic Pine I'm happy - I can get it and it will be so much easier than pulling up the other rooms! Thanks again!

Baltic pine, red or white IS deal (red or white)
You can still get 6" baltic (new) Try Tile Importers in Huntingdale or Budget Timbers in Dandenong

Your floor is baltic or hoop pine. NSW call it baltic, Queensland call it hoop pine. It is all the same.

your floor is baltic. go to a demolition yard and you will be able to buy heaps of it. we use recycled boards in matching upto old existing floors of the same species

Take a piece of your old floor along to the yard to get as close a match as possible.

There is Red Baltic and Champagne Baltic and you want to be sure you get the right colour.

You will also want to choose a floor sander who is comfortable with staining if you want to match the hallway.

Most flooring is red baltic and most weatherboards are white baltic.

Your floor is baltic or hoop pine. NSW call it baltic, Queensland call it hoop pine. It is all the same.

your floor is white baltic(picea abies)aka white deal.heartwood & sapwood are both cream coloured.
red baltic(pinus slyvestris) aka red deal, has a reddish brown heartwood with a clearly different creamy sapwood. heavier, more resinous.
hoop pine (araucaria cunninghamii)will only be found in nth nsw/queensland homes.not as many/ if any knots.
nz kauri(agathis australis) was also used a bit down here.
you can find recycled 6" boards for around $40/sqm
use old boards or the colour wont match
