I just did some simple toys in 3/4 pine... sanded like crazy then sprayed with mirrortone..... sanded a bit again and today I have ugly white stuff.... tried to sand again and sprayed estapol since I was in a hurry.... big mistake.... bigger whitish splotches....
tried steel wool and more sanding.... splotches are going away... but now I need to put new finish on..... any ideas what will work or for that matter... why I had the splotches to begin with? How can I prevent it from happening again?
Thanks for any help

Is it raining, or very high humidity? Sounds like there's moisture in there that got in when you were spraying perhaps?
If it is, the only thing I know of is to strip it back and redo:(
Sorry

sounds like it was too cold when you finished them,
retarders might help a little bit.
shellac does the same in cold weather
Hey Neal,
howdya stop shellac blushing?

It certainly sounds like "blooming" - where in Aus are you Juvy?
Here in Melbourne it's been cold and damp for a week or more, so without a properly heated and dehumidified spray booth blooming is very likely. Cure: Out with the sander (or just alcohol if the finish was shellac) :(

We're in Wodonga...... yep.... been very cold these last two days.... a bit on the damp side too.... so guess I had two factors against me.
I did sand back and then used wax instead... seems to work well enough and smells good to boot :)
Like it so much might do it this way for good....
Have yet to learn to do the spraying well... can't seem to get the hang of how to get into corners and stuff on the scroll work. To keep the pieces from flying off I used to hold them ( yuck fingers.... thinner kills nails) now I put double stick tape on a board and stick small stuff to that..... not ideal tho....
Does anyone have a better idea?
thanks
