Gday,
This is my first post, and i did try to find previous posts on the subject with no luck - so appologies if this is a repeat!

Can find no info on this in my fabulous framing book and my builder mates are away for the week!

I am a bit of a rookie renovator but am giving it a go anyway and have been trying to find info on whether a cavity slider requires a lintel the width of door plus cavity (ie 2 door widths) or whether the lintel should span the entire width of the wall. the wall in question is 2390 wide (so smallish).

Any ideas or advice would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance
Jo Jo

Just span the opening, as in, the door+the cavity bit.

Hi Jo Jo

Don't quote me, I'm not a builder but we put a couple in ourselves.

You do need a lintel that spans the entire opening width - it's just like any other wall opening; window or door - the weight needs to be distributed down through the top plate onto the lintel, which is attached to a double stud each side of the opening. It wasn't very hard, we are rookies too.

Cheers
