Bond breakers

Hi everyone,

I've got a couple of question re. bond breakers. I keep seeing them mentioned in a lot of answers and building guides when doing water proofing. My question(s) are; what are some bond breakers(brands and descriptions - and recommendations) and does anyone know of any water proofing process that doesn't require a bond breaker and is reliable.

I've head of sealants(like sikaflex pro I guess) being used to fill the gap between the wall and the floor and that being the bond breaker, is this ok to do?

You prolly need, Dr No, or Dr Evil maybe even Jaws.

They have all tried but have all failed, maybe if they made a collective effort the will break Bond.

Just noticed your current postcript, Al, reminds me of our old farm dog when we were "doin' the calves" :p

Keen as mustard at the start of the day, by the end he was lying there with a full guts, and would barely lift his head when another "set of wheels" were chucked his way. :D

A bond breaker allows the membrane to elongate over a wider area. For example if a crack opened from 0 to 5mm, if the membrane was painted directly over the crack, it would tear, with a 50mm wide bond breaker tape over the crack it would have to elongate to 55mm or 10% which is within the range of the membrane performance.

You can use flexible sealant or a filler rod (comes in big rolls is different diameters) with tape over it, usually 50mm wide grey stuff. The idea is the tape lifts off the surface it was stuck to. You could use Sikaflex but the membrane could only elongate over the width of the sikaflex (5-10mm) and not over the width of the tape (50mm).

As far as i know you can't do without it.
