Nah mate hasn't been proper state of origin in donkeys years now. It was pretty much killed when the great Ted Whitten died. Prior to that State of Origin was going since about 1890 or there abouts unlike the League mob who decided in the 1980's that they would try to do something like that.

Well and truly belted us that day. Can't remember exactly who you didn't let us have that year as half our team usually wasn't allowed in by the clubs in Melbourne. Anyway that was how that was. There were some great games back then through the 80's in particular. I remember one day would have been about 84 at Football Park and squeezed in standing room only in what was meant to be an all seated stadium saw a great game. Scores were tied with about a minute to go and the Vics got it out of the center and scored two quick goals to win by two goals. They were too good that year. There were so many great players we got to see in some of the great games of football.

It is a huge shame that they don't have them anymore.

I thought Finch should be the man of the match.

Typical origin game. NSW wins the first half and QLD wins the second.

are you talking about that one priceless moment when they were reflecting at halftime on the boundary and Kerls said it's not like our day Ted. And it went on if you had a problem with a guy you could sort it out while the umpire was down the other end. They don't let you do that anymore and so on. God they got into legalised assault and battery and how it was such a shame it wasn't in the game anymore.

Two great men

Hope so. Great game last week to do the Crows, who cares how it's played as long as the Crows loose the 4 points.

Typical dirty play there by QLD. Suckered the penalty twice. I wonder if they make the touch judges watch the footage after the game? But then he was obviously a QLD supporter, the way he applauded that run in the first half. Typical!!

Hey Silent,

NSW won! At least be gracious about it! ;)

Although, my favourite football to watch is AFL, then Union...

AFL for the flair, Union for the rolling mawls! :D

We are talking about State of Origin. It's a grudge match! Since when was a supporter ever gracious? Players can be gracious, coaches and team managers can be gracious - but supporters are required by unwritten law to be as ungracious about anything and everything as they can, win, lose or draw!

That's what I was referring to when I said "typical dirty QLD play" ;) That's the way it works: kick the man in the head while the ref isn't looking then hope for retaliation. Actually, it was more of a push than a punch. If he'd kept his elbow down, nothing would've been said about it. DB should have known better than to get sucked in to it.

The touch judge who called that one up that was the same one seen clapping as he held up the flag when QLD pushed NSW into touch at the beginning of the game. What was that about? Since when do officials applaud one team or the other? Since they became one-eyed QLD supporters, that's when!!

;)

I'm sure Les Boyd still holds that dubious honour.
