View Full Version : I surrender.

In the past these forums were lively, they had interesting debates, witty but friendly repartees between members as well as being informative and helpful.
But because some members objected to the benign moderation of our esteemed axe wielding mongrel the creation of an AO forum (the infamous Orange room which now has spawned the purple circle :D ) was started.
When this new forum was first mooted I opposed it as I firmly believe that whatever needs to be said can be said in open forums.
I still believe this to be the case but all those who made the BB what it used to be seem to have disagreed and migrated across to the Orange room leaving me behind.
Without them this BB has become boring to the extend that out of all the active threads thrown up by the “New Posts Button” for the last couple of weeks of 2679 I have only read 440 and responded only 31 times. My daily reading now only takes about 25 minutes. Admittedly this is partly due to my interests, which does not seem to coincide with what is being posted.
Whilst I have been known to battle on regardless of the consequences in this case I surrender and against my better judgment I am applying for membership to the O room.
Peter.

Thanks for the warning Al, I still have some Ancient Age scotch that I got in 1972 and a bottle of Old Parr from 1975 that might be appropriate. :D

Actually these bottles, and many more like that, were Christmas presents from when I was working at the Swagman.
Funny thing was that I used to be a Bacardi man like my boss who gave them to me. Every one at the Swagman, the boss included, knew I drank Bacardi and coke. Whenever I sat down in the restaurant and the nearest waitress would bring my Bacardi without needing to be asked.:D And then as presents he gave bottles of scotch, a different and often elusive but always expensive brand but still scotch.
Am slowly drinking my hoard.:D

Oh Peter, such a sorry tale (the Scotch, not the Orange room).
Be careful or you'll be accused of only posting in the non woodwork threads.;)

It's even worse Jim as I haven't even mentioned the Black Douglas, Queen Anne, Glenfiddich or Grant's and the Jameson or Wild turkey and the Suntori.
One of the great perks of working there was that the Wine and Spirit reps used to supply me with samples of all their wares. I used to have a bar filled with every spirit and liquers that was available in the 1970's. Slowly worked down to such low holdings that I might even have to buy some.:p

Sturdee, Seeing that you were of some support to me recently, i read your post....and then read on. It seems that you have a huge interest in alcohol. I can't believe, however that it stops there. What could we post to liven up your day?

I used to have that but now I hardly ever have a drink.:D I have a few occasionally, but I'll have a couple of drinks upon my induction to the AO section.:D
My interest are very eclectic, but as Bodgy said Jigs are a major part. Whether I make them or dance them jigs are great. Makes life easier and more enjoyable.

John, If I wrote a detailed review they would have to send it to the O room.:D :D :D
Actually I haven't looked at the archives yet, just had a quick look at the last week or so. There have been some interesting discussions (just finished reading a thread on terrorism) but also a lot of mundane topics and the usual toilet humour / discussions.
So far it appears that the interesting discussions of previous years did move to the O room and as such worthy of reading, and possibly participating in, but I will continue to ignore the usual rubbish.

I am not going there then, but have you heard about our deputy prime minister, he is in his late sixties, and pulled his secretary, (hand up frock) and they have stripped him of his powers of office, myself I think they should have given him a medal or a knighthood. He is the most ugly looking po y around and she looks lovely.
So can we do this on this thread.

I agree Jow. Commander of the Garter, at least.
Maybe foolish to sack him as the public will often vote for a guy with a bit of go. Bob Hawke got big majorities and he couldn't keep his dick in his pants either. John Gorton was an awful drunk - even tried to jump the Nigerian ambassador's wife at a diplomatic reception. Fraser lost his pants to Delilah in Memphis.
Incidentally hows the weather in the old Dart? I'm over there come Tuesday.

Jow,
It is basically just a place where people say what they think/feel with limited retribution. Adds a lot to the forum for me (and helps me understand where some people are coming from in their other discussions).
Mind you, there isn't much/any talk about WW in there...
