A purple circle is a colloquial term in Western Australia and I used it in the open slather where it wasn’t meant to be broadcast to the open forum. The context I used it was when a group of forum members collectively admonish a newbie for a bad post. The effect is that they cop a public reprimand as well as having their reputation points demolished. The result is a newbie who is usually trying to be accepted by the greater majority is totally embarrassed never to be seen again. My point was that let the punishment fit the crime and educate newbies rather than collectively pounce on them.
The example I used was in the thread in the open slather forum where this all started. These were only my opinions and I could have it totally wrong.
I find this thread offensive and have asked for it to be moved to the open slather. I see it as more of the same mockery that went on in open slather.
Ok so that clears up what purple circle is and it would only relate to you when you use the letter “O”. :D

I must admit you are a master at selective interpretation. I have asked you to read and understand the issues I raised but you seem to only want to selectively respond often taking it out of context. Your strength is in mocking so why don't you stick to that? When you want to articulate objectively then I am happy to communicate.

“O”. :D
Read "O" once and its idea of a purple circle was sumwhat diffrent to yours
There are fractions on the forum who are known to each other outside of the internet I know I was introduced to the forum by another member and have met others personally through the forum
It is a natural thing to stick up for those who are your friends
This purple circle thing however is implying that once any member of the purple circle sends a red then all connected will follow
I have seen one instance where a new member was bombarded with reds because one forum member took offence to the newbie reply . one in a couple of years, usually the reds flow because of the crap posted and the top 20 hitters are the ones who look at the forum a couple of times a day and contribute daily, as they have done for years and have made this forum as good as it is , not because there is some secret covert gang
It becomes hard to draw a line for me in that I havent yet been disturbed enough to send a red ( though doug's new avatar if non changed may be my first) I don't like to see new members shot down in flames when my interperation of there threds is diffrent from others and they get bombarded , in those cases I pm offer some "hang in there advice" and sometimes give a green if the post warents it under the forum rules
There have been lots of ideas as to how to improve the reputation system , If EVERYONE followed those rules we wouldn't have a probem
who here has only ever given a green because
Reputation should be given to people who post meaningful, helpful, and thoughtful posts. Any post that contributes to the thread in a positive way probably deserves positive reputation. This does not necessarily have to mean that you agree with what was said; the point brought up may be completely opposite to what you believe, but it may be a good point nonetheless, and worthy of a pat on the back. "Giving positive reputation to someone because they are your friend and deserve to have a few more green dots next to their name isn't a good reason to give positive reputation."
Or given a red because
Negative reputation should be given if the person is posting something that detracts from the conversation. If the post is rude, inappropriate, breaks forum rules, is not gracious, etc; these are all good reasons to give negative reputation.
If you have a personal grudge against someone, it is not appropriate to give them negative reputation for no reason. Giving negative reputation because you don't agree with what was said is also inappropriate use of the reputation system. People are entitled to their own opinions, just because you don't agree doesn't mean the user was wrong or not contributing to the conversation.
Sometimes its good just to read the guide lines again

Quote:
I think I'm in. which means I'm really out, because if you think you're out like Doug does, then you are definitely in. If I say THEM, it's to make you think that I think I'm out, when actually I think I'm in which is proof positive that I'm out.
