What is emporite?

I see real-estate ads talking about "emporite kitchens"? It seems to be a surface finish for cupboards and doors.

Is it just a posh name for 2-pack?

I had another look for this (after receiving a private message indicating emporite is 2-pack).

Googling for emporite word brings up hundreds of real estate listings and even adding extra words to google (like variations of "two pack") doesn't show much.

I finally looked on sensis.com.au as they claim to be more Aussie oriented (and it seems to be an Aussie word), and found a few references which seem to confirm that emporite (or emperite) is 2 pack.

This mob do emporite spray finishes and also an interesting sounding metal look-alike spray.

Dont' go blue in the face waiting for an answer toto, I do believe that "emporite" is a knock-off of the original two-pack product "imperite", made, unless I am mistaken (and that's happened before) by Industrial and Marine Products (Now Coatings) and hence IMPerite.

From memory that product is now made or distributed by Jotun, but I couldn't find reference to it on their website.

It was, and to my knowledge still is a very expensive and very, very durable product and there are cheaper and less durable products now available, which in turn will undoubtedly give "two pack" a bad name:( .

I think the corruption to "emporite" must have come about because of all the Kiwis flogging real estate.

I have an "emporite" kitchen. or "imporite". Don't know how it's spelt 'cos I never saw it written down. It was there when I bought the house.

It certainly has the look of a two pack, but it does scratch extremely easily. Also cracks if it is covering a soft wood of any sort. I know because my wife put the corner of a small step ladder into a cupboard door, not very hard, and it has a fine but visible crack in it.

Nice stuff, nice looking, but treat it kind.

If it scratches easily. it's not imporite.

We have used the stuff on bathroom benchtops, and no sign of any slight scuffing even.

That's the difference between paying the big bucks for a proper finish, and using other lesser quality products I guess.

Hmm. Wonder what it is. Not doubting you midge as I have only ever heard the real estate agent decribe it as such when we bought.

Now I'll have to figure out what it is. It'll keep bugging me until I do.:(

Thanks - I've now tried searching for Imperite. It comes up with Jotun but like you I couldn't find it on the Jotun website.
