Will be building new speakers soon - need advise (noob alert - run away).
Material in question is 25mm 'Brims board' (mdf) with a 0.6mm veneer of Karri.
have used 'Estapol' before with reasonable results.
I'm thinking that polyeurothane may be a better, longer, tougher, glossier finish.

So, what clear varnish is best, how do i apply it, and rough idea of costs involved would be good.
Do I need to 'seal' it first etc.
Thanks all........

Estapol is polyurethane.

Really ! didnt know that.
just read the back of a water based wattyl estapol and it says nothing about it, will have to go and check their other products.

In that case, what is the best way to get the best finish with it ?
refering to their oil based estapol..

proper polyurethane is a two pack mix resin and hardener. paints which only require thinning with a solvent may be polyurethane family (hence maybe labeled polyurethane) but won't be as hard and strong as a two part paint. There are some polyurethanes which require three parts ( real expensive and only found in industries like Aircraft.0

Always read labels or fact sheets, even in two part Poly's some are not suitable for use outside, if they arn't going to be used outside there is no need to add chemicals to stop effects of ultra violet sunlight. Ok for your speakers if not there useless if its the deck of your boat.
